El Centro de la Raza Presents 18th Annual Día de los Muertos Event

Seattle – El Centro de la Raza celebrates its Annual Día de los Muertos event on Saturday, November 4th, from 11:00 AM -6:00 PM at El Centro de la Raza’s Centilia Cultural Center.

Dia de los Muertos is a time for remembering the lives of those who have passed. This year’s theme is: ‘Un Pueblo Sin Memoria es un Pueblo Sin Futuro’ / ‘The People without memory is a people without a future’. We want to honor Mother Earth and those who have died from homelessness, mental illnesses, gun violence, and other environmental factors. We also want to honor the survivors of 50th -anniversary of the of the military coup d’état which deposed democratically elected President Salvador Allende. Many were murdered, disappeared or exiled. Many of the exiled came to El Centro de la Raza for services and help El Centro de la Raza in the early years. Remembering the words of co-founder Roberto Maestas “We see that physical, and mental health, the nightmare of perpetual poverty, early death, gun violence, and incarceration are all part of the environmental crisis.
