Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, mejor conocido como Swing nació el 2 de octubre de 1951 en Wallsend, Tyneside del Norte, al noreste de Inglaterra. El es un músico y actor que se dio a conocer como miembro del grupo musical The Police.
En 1985 grabo su primer disco como solista. Swing ha vendido millones de discos y numerosos premios Grammy, así como una nominación a los premios Oscar por mejor canción en el 2004.
En 1976 se caso con la actriz Frances Tomelty y tuvieron dos hijos Kate Sumner y Joe Sumner.
Después de su divorcio tuvo una relacion con Trudie Styler, con quien se casó en 1992 y tuvieron 4 hijos. Mickey Sumner, Coco Sumner, Jake Sumner y Giacomo Luke Sumner.
